Dear Neighbor
Please Support and Sign the Petition To Remove the Speed Bumps on Sonja Drive and Admiral Road
We the residents of Farragut View subdivision petition the Engineering Department and the Town of Farragut to remove the speed bumps on Sonja Drive and Admiral Road.
- CONFIRMED! Fire Department & EMS vehicles have to come to a stop for speed bumps. SECONDS COUNT!!!
- The speed bumps are ineffective at slowing the majority of traffic.
- A minority of traffic slows for no more than a brief second.
- The vehicles that do briefly slow immediately accelerate to speeds as high or higher than they were previously going.
- Noise pollution is louder due to the fast immediate acceleration.
- Adversely, the speed bumps are 100% effective at blocking a minority group of disabled Americans from simply traveling to and from their homes.
- While vehicles are flying over the speed bump at 11134 Sonja Drive; Kids are riding scooters and playing in the middle of Sonja Drive on this speed bump therefore placing unneeded liability on the Town of Farragut.
- The speed limit on Sonja Drive & Admiral Road is 25 MPH but the obtrusive speed bump signs posted indicate that the speed bumps were designed for roads with a speed limit of 15 MPH.
- The majority of most traffic is not slowed down and people are crossing the speed bumps at 30+ MPH.
- Sonja Drive and Admiral Road are extremely dark and the speed bumps cannot be seen until the damage is already done therefore placing unneeded liability on the Town of Farragut.
- The speed bumps are 100% ineffective at slowing down EVERYONE speeding through the 3-way stop signs at Admiral Road and Sonja Drive.
- People are protesting the obvious ineffectiveness of the obtrusive speed bumps by blowing their horns.
The speed bumps block the following minority groups:
- Disabled Americans confined to wheelchairs.
- A detriment to Seniors that have to come to a complete stop which in turn causes tempers to flare and road rage from the vehicles behind them that are also forced to stop.
- Persons that suffer from excruciating back pain have to come to a complete stop which in turn causes tempers to flare and road rage from the vehicles behind them that are also forced to stop.
- Speed bumps that block these minority groups of disabled Americans civil rights is also a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
“Disability discrimination, which treats non-disabled individuals as the standard of ‘normal living’, results in public and private places and services, educational settings, and social services that are built to serve ‘standard’ people, thereby excluding those with various disabilities… Wikipedia”
Furthermore, on September 1, 2022 the Town of Farragut held a highly questionable meeting organized by a few residents of Farragut View Subdivision in a taxpayer funded facility where several people openly discussed BLOCKING one of our neighbors that is confined to a wheelchair from simply going to and from their home. If this is not discrimination; then what is?
When brought to the attention of the Town of Farragut official presiding over the meeting about our neighbor, he stated maybe he would contact the neighbor in the wheelchair; he also stated maybe he could increase the margin between the speed bumps so the disabled person could go between them in their wheelchair.
The Town of Farragut wants a disabled person that has no legs and is confined to a wheelchair to go between two speed bumps on a steep incline on a very narrow road (Specifically, Admiral Road). Absurd!
A few words from this organized meeting that several residents held come to mind: Discrimination, Bigotry, Prejudice and Segregation to name a few. Yes segregation, the Town of Farragut openly discussed blocking a certain minority group of disabled Americans from simply going to and from their homes! People with disabilities are a significant minority group!

The ADA law also addresses the new construction and alterations of roadways.
§35.151 New Construction and Alterations.

“The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which stipulates that new facilities must be readily accessible to and usable by individuals with disabilities.” “The ADA Title II regulations define ‘facility’ to include ‘roads’” “The regulations go on to say that alterations to facilities must be accessible and usable to the maximum extent feasible.”
As a resident of Farragut View Subdivision, I demand that the Engineering Department and the Town of Farragut remove the speed bumps on Sonja Drive and Admiral Road before someone is killed.
